Julian Matthew Roman
Member, Berkeley Chapter
Julian grew up in Hayward, CA where he began to find his passion for science and medicine in elementary school. He would be asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" and would always respond with "I want to be a doctor!" but never knew why. As he got older, he began to take general science courses and learned more about the way our body works. During high school, he began to take biology and chemistry courses which confirmed his love for science. Julian enjoyed taking the time to volunteer in service clubs on the side and finding ways to positively affect his local community. He volunteered as a youth group leader at his local church where he would guide bible studies among middle and high school students. He learned about Project SCIFI during Spring 2020 at the start of the pandemic and was interested in their mission to impact the lives of the youth. He understood the importance of accessibility to science materials and connected with Project SCIFI's goals of serving the underserved youth. Working with Project SCIFI, he hopes to give younger students the opportunity to explore science and find what makes them the most curious about the world.
Julian is a third-year student at the University of California, Berkeley who is working towards going to medical school to become a cardiologist or a pediatrician. He is interested in getting a Masters of Public Health in Community Health Sciences or Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology.
