Lavanya Gupta

Experimental Innovators [Co-founders]

Lavanya grew up in Southern California (Irvine) and she is currently a first-year undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, intending to major in Molecular and Cell Biology. Previously, she taught math to 5th-6th graders on weekends in Santa Ana's underserved community and loved personally interacting with them and witnessing all their "ah-ha" moments throughout the time she taught. She hopes to continue to support the education of students in underserved communities and contribute to their growth in STEM during her time at Project SCIFI. In her free time, Lavanya enjoys hiking, reading sci-fi/fantasy/historical fiction books, taking pictures of nature, and watching stand-up comedy.

What is your major?

Molecular & Cell Biology / Public Health

Why did you join Project SCIFI?

During high school I really enjoyed teaching younger children, especially when I had the opportunity to teach math to some underserved students. I wanted to combine those past efforts with my love for research I found after graduating high school, and thought that Project SCIFI was a great way to do that!

Do you have an idea of what you want to do in the future?
